UC Lead Medical Coordinator (RN required)


POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Lead Medical Coordinator for unaccompanied minors plans, directs, and supervises a team to provide health services, ensuring compliance with Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) guidelines and local policies. This position coordinates medical, dental, and mental health care, overseeing staff, managing medical records and supplies, assisting with health education, and acting as a liaison with medical providers and relevant agencies. The role requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Supervisory experience of 1-2 years preferred
  • Must be at MINIMUM a Registered Nurse
  • 1 year of child welfare experience required
  • 3-5 Years of Mental Health Service Experience
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) REQUIRED
  • All Health Services Department Personnel who provide direct care are required to maintain competency in Basic Life Support, following the American Heart Association BLS Guidelines.
  • A BLS Course must be successfully completed every 2 years.
  • All BLS Courses must contain AED Training
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications.

VACCINATIONS REQUIRED: Be able to show proof of immunization or immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route, including:

  • Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least four weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from a healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
  • MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least four weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases.
  • Tdap: one Tdap dose.
  • Influenza: one dose annually during flu season.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

All of the responsibilities listed below are considered essential functions of this position. Additionally, this position is expected to ensure that the core operating values and the strategic direction of the agency are adhered to.

  1. Oversee the provision of direct care by the health services team to UC's , ensuring quality and compliance with established standards.
  2. Coordinate efforts to provide specialized care and support for UC's with specific medical needs, ensuring staff is trained to address these needs effectively.
  3. Lead the development and implementation of educational groups focused on wellness, STD awareness, sex education, etc., monitoring their impact and effectiveness.
  4. Guide the team in working with UC's to navigate healthcare procedures, such as immunizations, blood tests, and examinations, ensuring clear communication and support.
  5. Oversee the process of educating UC's about the effects of medications, ensuring the team provides accurate and comprehensible information.
  6. Ensure health summaries for UC's are accurately written and integrated into their overall treatment plans by supervising the documentation process.
  7. Manage the procurement and maintenance of medical supplies, ensuring the team has the necessary resources to provide care.
  8. Provide leadership and guidance to team members on medical care, medication administration, first aid, and wellness, ensuring they are well-informed and supported.
  9. Review and evaluate Incident Reports concerning client health, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA) and taking corrective action as necessary.
  10. Ensure the health services team complies with all governmental and company regulations, leading by example and enforcing standards.
  11. Oversee compliance with documentation standards and protocols for the UC-TFC (Unaccompanied Children Temporary Foster Care) program, ensuring all required documentation is completed accurately and timely.
  12. Lead the participation of the health services team in the agency's Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) plan, identifying areas for improvement and implementing strategies.
  13. Perform supervisory duties, including staff training, performance evaluation, and team building, to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of health services.
  14. Other related duties as assigned.
