Senior Accountant


POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Senior Accountant will be primarily responsible for the month-end close process, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, preparing bank reconciliation, maintaining support schedules for GL accounts, preparing and distributing financial statements, budget vs. actual statements, financial related analysis to managers, Board members, and other staff members, monitors budget vs. actual, performs financial projections, supporting the annual audit process and external audits, supporting the budgeting process, Performing relatively complex accounting duties including maintenance and analysis of accounting records. The Senior Staff Accountant reports to the Finance Manager.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting. 3 + years' experience of accounting, GL reconciliation and financial analysis. Experience in a non-profit organization is preferred.
  • The Senior Accountant will demonstrate and possess many of the following qualifications:
    • Experience and thorough understanding of GAAP, general ledger and financial statements
    • Strong research and financial analytical skills
    • Experience in month end and year end closing, budget preparation, financial forecasting, internal/external audit preparation, GL reconciliation and financial statement preparation.
    • Advance skills in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
    • Strong communication skills verbally and in writing
    • Experience in A/P, A/R and other accounting functions
    • The following skills and experience preferred but not required:
      • Government contract experience
      • Knowledge of MIP Fund Accounting system
      • Non-Profit, cost allocation experience and knowledge
      • Familiarity with Federal, State and Local funding guidelines

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform month end close allocation process.
    • Update cost allocation plans as needed.
    • Prepare for month and year end reconciliations including bank reconciliations and GL reconciliations.
    • Preparing financial statements, budget vs. actual statements and analysis, financial related analysis, and distributes to applicable parties.
    • Monitoring budget vs. actual and preparing financial projection and forecasting.
    • Prepare internal and external reports as required.
    • Attend internal and external meetings as required.
    • Supports with audits, fiscal reviews, and monitoring.
    • Supports with agency budget preparations.
    • Prepare and maintain subaccount schedules as needed.
    • Supporting with new program/grant RFP budgeting process.
    • Keeping track of various business certifications and line of credit expiration date and handling renewals timely.
    • Cross train with other departments functions/duties and provide support as needed.
    • Performing other duties and managing special projects assigned.

      • This is a primarily sedentary position with the individual primarily sitting at a desk

      • Ability to type and enter data for prolonged periods of time
      • Ability to receive, process and interpret data for extended periods of time
      • Must be able to perform a wide range of physical demands such as sit, stand, bend, stoop push, pull, carry, and lift twenty pounds if necessary
      • Must be able to drive an automobile or secure suitable and alternative means of transportation to other sites as needed

      Pay: $38.00-$41.00 per hour
