SALARY RANGE: $85,000k- $95,000k/yr.


The Grants & Government Affairs Manager is responsible for managing the organization's engagement with government entities at the local, state, and federal levels in collaboration with the Vice President of Development. This position plays a critical role in acquiring and managing government-funded funding, such as grants and contracts, cultivating and maintaining relationships with public officials and agencies, and advancing the organization's policy and advocacy priorities. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and persuasive communicator with experience in public funding and government relations.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Communications, Business or a related field (master's preferred).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or grants/contracts management.
  • Demonstrated success by securing and managing government funding in a nonprofit or public setting.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative process and public policy advocacy strategies. (California/Los Angeles based knowledge preferred)
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit sector and human/social services (PREFERRED)
  • Experience using grant management systems or CRM tools (PREFERRED)
  • Existing relationships with policymakers or agencies in Los Angeles (PREFERRED)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

All of the responsibilities listed below are considered essential functions of this position. Additionally, this position is expected to ensure that the core operating values and the strategic direction of the agency are adhered to.

Government Grants & Contract Management

  • Identify, apply for, and manage government/public funding opportunities in alignment with programmatic goals.
  • Oversee reporting for government grants as assigned, working closely with finance, compliance and program staff.
  • Develop systems to ensure efficient tracking, renewal, and performance reporting for public funding sources.
  • Cultivate other funding sources as assigned.

Policy & Advocacy

  • Develop and execute advocacy strategies to advance the organization's mission and influence relevant legislation and public policy.
  • Draft position statements and advocacy materials to support outreach efforts.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that affect the organization and its stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Director of Training on the strategic direction of policy focused events.

Government Relations & External Engagement

  • Build and sustain relationships with elected officials, public agency staff, and other government stakeholders.
  • Represent the organization at hearings, policy briefings, and coalitions or advocacy forums.
  • Coordinate meetings, site visits, and events with public officials to showcase organizational impact.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

  • Standing: A significant portion of the work may involve standing for extended periods, particularly during presentations or when interacting with clients.
  • Office equipment: The manager will need to use and operate various office equipment, such as computers, copiers, and fax machines, which requires hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
  • Lifting: The job may occasionally involve lifting light objects or supplies, but the weight is typically limited to around 20 pounds.
  • No strenuous activity: The job does not require strenuous physical exertion, such as running or heavy lifting
